Rainbow mystery

This rainbow crossing box suddenly appeared

Suddenly last week, the rainbow crossing box shown above appeared at the corner of Second Street and Park Avenue.

I was going to snap a photo, then saw this (better) one on Plainfield developer Mario Camino's Facebook page.

There are similar crossings in Montclair and Maplewood, but no one seems to know how Plainfield's came to be. Or why.

The rainbow flag is commonly viewed as the symbol of gay activism. But what message is being conveyed here?

So far there has been no acknowledgment by the city about the mysterious rainbow's appearance.

What do you think?
