Grassroots CDC offers 'Out Of The Box Club', kids program aimed against violence

Kids are innately curious.

Plainfield's Grassroots CDC is offering a program for youngster that takes aim at one of roots of violence in our community.

While I was not able to attend Mayor Mapp's recent Town Hall meeting on safety in the community at Washington School, I agree wholeheartedly with Assemblyman Green, who was quoted as saying that what at-risk young people need is jobs.

They also need aspirations, and this is where the Grassroots organization comes in.

From Saturday, January 28 through Saturday, March 18, the group will run its "Out Of The Box Club for Math and Science" at St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

The Club is targeted for youngsters from Grades 3 through 7, and is designed to excite and challenge them while instilling a love for and early understanding of topics in math and science. It is a perfect antidote to the complaint that "there's nothing for kids to do".

Here are the details --
  • When: Saturdays from 1/28/17 through 3/18/17

  • Time: 1:30 - 3:30 PM

  • Location: St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 1430 Park Avenue, Plainfield

  • Club Dues: $50/child, payable at first Club meeting

  • Information: Register online at www.plainfieldgrassroots.org/ or contact Valerie McCree, (908) 821-6421.
