FUSP offers free screening "Blackbird" Friday night

A devout Baptist teen in a Southern town deals
with his gayness.

Continuing its 'Second Friday' film series, the First Unitarian Society of Plainfield (FUSP) will screen the 2015 film 'Blackbird' this Friday (September 8) in the Parish Hall, 724 Park Avenue, beginning at 7:00 PM.

Randy (Julian Walker), a devout member of a Baptist congregation in a Southern town, struggles with his faith and his inner secret (he is gay), while also caring for his emotionally disturbed mother (Mo'Nique) in a home setting which his father (Isaiah Washington) has left.

This coming-of-age movie directed by Patrik-Ian Polk, won high praise on the international film festival circuit in 2014, before its wider release.

"Second Friday Movies" is a program of FUSP; the free movies are intended to spark conversations -- so come along for the movie and the crowd.

FUSP is at 724 Park Avenue, just off West 7th Street. Parking on the street or in area lots.
