Plainfield Dems prepare for November election

The November ballot features Congresswoman Bonnie
Watson Coleman, Charles McRae (Ward 3) and
Rebecca Williams (At-large).

Plainfield's Democratic City Committee (PDCC) held a committee meeting and a community potluck picnic at Cedar Brook Park on Saturday, September 24.

Among the business transacted were plans to support the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton, the Ward 3 and Citywide at-large races in Plainfield, and headquarters operations for the Fall campaign season.

There was also a report and discussion of the PDCC bylaws.

It was pointed out that the bylaws are quite out of date, dating back to the 1990s and do not align well with the Union County Democratic Committee bylaws.

Numerous changes were discussed, including --
  • Addition of a statement of purpose (derived from the UCDC bylaws);
  • Reduction in the number of mandatory meetings per year (to two); and
  • Streamlining of committees by elimination all but Finance and giving the chair the authority to appoint ad hoc committees as needed.

PDCC members were given printed copies of the old and proposed bylaws to review before another PDCC meeting to be held before the November election, at which time action will be taken on the proposed new bylaws.

Plainfield Democratic headquarters for the November elections is once again at 31 Watchung Avenue (next to Antojito's restaurant), just steps away from the public parking lot on Watchung Avenue. Headquarters will be open daily from Noon to 8:00 PM.

Volunteers will be making phone calls for both the local races and for the Clinton campaign beginning this week.

The general election is on Tuesday, November 8.
