Depending on whether your regular garbage pickup is THURSDAY or FRIDAY, you may put out your RECYCLES (blue can) along with your garbage for pickup today or tomorrow.
Councilor Williams has been told by officials at the PMUA that pickups will be made today (Thursday) and tomorrow (Friday) -- see her blog post here. (She notes she was told they were very shorthanded on Wednesday.)
Any questions, call the PMUA at (908) 226-2518.
- And My Point Is: "PMUA recycles pickup 12/29, 12/30"

I saw some workers this morning putting the recyclables in the same hauler as the regular trash. Are they now collecting everything comingled (garbage and recyclables)?
OK, so recycled waste will be co-mingled with regular garbage in one truck?
This feeds my suspicion that our recycled waste is no longer being recycled - paper, plastic, glass & metal are now being loaded together on trucks every week. How is that getting separated? Are these items truly being recyled? Or is the PMUA keeping appearances and cutting costs?
Can anybody answer?
Unless I missed a change somewhere... Recycling is not usually picked up during the last week of the month when there are 5 weeks to the month. Lets hope its not all going to the incinerator.
To 10:27: you are correct. PMUA takes off from recycling every fifth Wednesday (for 2012 that's February, May, August, and October.) Yesterday was the fourth Wednesday of December. At the very least, PMUA mixes cans, bottles and paper every week. Sometimes PMUA mixes recyclable items with garbage. I gotta think that makes at the very least all the paper dirty and useless. This is not the guys on the trucks; this is policy.
This is not a 5 Wednesday month, so recycles were scheduled to be picked up on 12/28/11 its a shame I had to call to find out they were behind, classic PMUA
To 10:27 am,
There are no pickups on 5th Wednesdays--yesterday was a 4th Wednesday. The pick up is on the official PMUA schedule as well. If the workers are doing what 9:10 am said, they are in violation of the law.
Just an FYI, recyclables were picked up in the first ward on Wednesday morning at 6am as per usual. Have to believe it was a manpower scheduling problem.
BTW if personal and holiday time cannot be accrued in the future as some advocate, we can expect more of this scheduling problem, especially at the end of the year.
Dan,
I got my PMUA newsletter in the mail today, and guess what? They are now going to pick up recyclables EVERY week, no more skipping the 5th week. Just another effort to make it look like we are not getting ripped off as much even though we are paying 3 times the amount of a private contractor. But we do get those pretty totes!
Wednesday this week was the published recyclable pick up. Saw this blog, left out Thursday and Friday. Still not picked up. Dragged back to garage Friday night. Do they pick up on Saturdays?
Just for the record..this is week 2 of NO recycleable pick up. Yesterday, Wednesday 1/4/2012 was supposed to be a scheduled pick up, but it didn't happen. This time the entire street left cans out...
Anyone know what is going on???
