UPDATE: Changes to 'break-ins' forum tonight

Plainfield Today has been advised that Mayor Robinson-Briggs' appearance at this evening's forum on Sleepy Hollow 'break-ins' has been downgraded to a 'wave-by'.

Originally listed on the promotional flyer (see here) as speaking about 'what the City knows about the Sleepy Hollow break-ins', a reader was advised by the mayor's confidential assistant yesterday that the Mayor 'is planning a wave-by and will have nothing substantive to say'.

The event is scheduled for 6:30 PM sharp this evening at the Cook School Cafeteria, Leland Avenue at Berkeley Avenue.

"Wave-by"? Is that like a drive-by? Not a fan of that language, Dan. Glad the mayor is not going to embarrass herself by being a part of this scheme, although I don't think she should show up at all. I hope one of you blogging people will be able to go by there and see whether there is a sign in sheet for hapless residents to sign and whether they will be getting a phone call to purchase homeowner's insurance by the insurance guy or whether he will be using their contact information to sell them other useless products based on fear. I hope a representative or two from one of the legitimate neighborhood groups goes to find out just who these people are and what information they have on "Sleepy Hollow" break ins that maybe the police have not shared with the neighborhood groups. As an email subscriber to these groups I find it hard to believe that the police would be saying anything different from what they have already said. I wonder if the main speaker who is trying to drum up business for herself and the insurance agent will be also trying to get people to agree to sell or refinance their homes or if it's that buying insurance will help buy "peace of mind" thereby generating good health. I wonder why the main speaker wouldn't have reached out to join other already existing organizations which already have a good neighborhood relationship with the police. Many people I have spoken to think this is simply someone who is trying to exploit fears of being robbed and try to get them to pay an hourly fee to a "therapist" to help them over the trauma of having their home or car broken into. Sounds like snake oil, Dan!

Are the police still participating? If not, is this just an event to sell insurance and counselling services, where there is an admission charge?

Has the Mayor ever had anything substative to say?

This could be a first.
