Council primary petitions due today. Any more shoes to drop?

Nomination petitions for two Plainfield City Council seats (Ward 3 and Citywide at-large) must be filed by 4:00 PM today.

The Plainfield Democratic City Committee has already announced its picks: Rebecca Williams for at-large and Charles McRae for Ward 3.

Incumbent Tracey Brown and newcomer Alma Blanco previously announced they plan to file today also as Democratic candidates, continuing a longstanding Plainfield tradition of candidates running off the official line.

There are conflicting reports of whether incumbent Gloria Taylor is or is not circulating a petition. Those rumors should resolve themselves by the end of the day.

And of course, there is the possibility that one or more Republicans may file to run for the two seats.

Those wishing to run as independents in the November general election must file by 4 PM on primary election day.

With a lively presidential primary likely on the same ballot as the Council races, chances are that the primary numbers for all candidates will be higher than usual.

Stay tuned.
