Mugging at train station Friday evening

Netherwood's historic train station.

Received a report of a mugging at Plainfield's Netherwood train station Friday evening, between 7:30 and 8:00 PM.

A young male is said to have snatched a woman's purse as she was walking to her car.

Security at Netherwood Station appears to be an issue with commuters who use this station. There have been several recent comments on Plainfield Today over whether the Plainfield police or NJT police should patrol the parking lots when commuter trains arrive.

While the Netherwood Station property is indeed NJT private property, so is Westfield's, and readers point out that Westfield police do meet the trains.

Maybe readers who are concerned about this issue can raise the Robinson-Briggs administration's awareness through lobbying by their neighborhood associations or block groups such as FOSH and Netherwood Neighbors.

To be fair I am usually at the Netherwood station every day around 4:45 and more often than not there is a Plainfield police van in the parking lot (South ave side). I can't speak to later times or to the North ave side of the station.
In general there has been a stepped up presense all along South ave over tha past few months.

Unfortunately that issue will not become a problem unless Mayor Jerry or Assistant Mayor Sharon -or one of their friends or family - are mugged or accosted.
Simple fact. Her give a sh%t factor is as close to zero as it could be. Mayor Jerry's...even less.

Snatched makes it sound so playful.

Hey 7:36 AM! -- The crime used to be referred to as 'purse snatching'. Maybe you were there and didn't go to the woman's aid? You wanna give me your rewrite, go ahead.

Call NJ Transit Police..PLfd police are certainly busier than Westfield.
