Commuter robbed at gunpoint walking home from train

A Plainfield commuter who lives in the 900-block of Madison Avenue was robbed at gunpoint while walking home from the train station this past Tuesday evening, I learned from a VWB resident on Saturday evening.

This, even as Public Safety Director Martin Hellwig was being interviewed about his newest plan to hold the line on exactly this type of crime (see Courier story here).

The beefed up public police presence which is an integral part of the plan is designed to change the perception of Plainfield as dangerous or crime-ridden.

Clearly, it's an uphill struggle.

I would guess Assistant Mayor Sharon's policy of "hear no evil, see no evil, say no evil" does not have the desired effect on crime in Plainfield. Can you imagine how bad crime would be if they put things like this in the newspapers like the other towns?!?!?!
And I repeat: Assistant Mayor Sharon at the end of Animal House ( cut to parade scene ), arms in the air screaming, " ALL IS WELL, ALL IS WELL"

To Rob, I can just picture that happening! ALL IS WELL!

Dan: Someone who attends FOSH board meetings pointed out that he uses the Fanwood train station after dark because police there meet the trains - once an hour. At the behest of FOSH,he asked Plainfield's finest if a car could swing by once an hour to give Plfd commuters a break. Answer was no. And that's a very scary tunnel under the tracks at Netherwood. Maybe we should ask for the mobile command post.

by the way three plainfield high school students were robbed at gunpoint also in the past two weeks, two basketball players and a sophomore outside her home on west 3rd.. however nothing is ever reported

Plainfield is not a safe place to live anymore. We are being robbed by City Hall corruption in the daytime, and by gangsters in the night. If Mayor Green gave a dam he would have the Police at the train stations after dark.

don't complain about PLFD Police (there busy enough handling city calls)..That is New Jersey Transit Police responsibility.....

I would take exception to the safety of commuters being the sole responsibility of NJ Transit. It may be that the Transit Police bear some responsibility, however the residents of the town ( who presumably are working and paying taxes) deserve to be protected at all times by local police.
