Stender for Lt. Gov.? Running on her Muhlenberg record?

Middlesex County Dem meeting. Photo: PolitickerNJ

New Jersey's first Lieutenant Governor, to be elected in November, should be a woman, says Assemblywoman Linda Stender.

Plainfielders and voters in the 13 other communities (nearly all in Stender's legislative district) that depended on Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center may just agree.

Stender made her comments at the Middlesex County Democrats meeting last night at the Pines Manor, where she and Jerry Green were nominated -- again -- for their Assembly seats. The meeting was reported in today's PolitickerNJ (see here).

But area voters may not agree that it should be Stender, who inexplicably lost the race for the 7th Congressional District seat last November.

The reason?

Plainfielders and other Muhlenberg supporters have been fuming since the beginning of the struggle to save the 131-year-old hospital that Assemblywoman Stender has been 'missing in action', having never attended a single rally or public hearing or even making a supportive comment in the media.

So, a woman may well be a swell idea for New Jersey's first Lt. Governor, but around these parts it may be a hard sell for one particular woman: Linda Stender.

I am a loyal always-voting Democrat, but observing Union County Democratic Machine politics, I think it is time to clean house with Republicans, for a change. The state of Plainfield's City Hall personnel is such a disgrace to the Machine - it's time to get some new "mechanics" to unseat the power brokers.

My votes are going to Republican candidates until I see decent politics in Plainfield. At this point I would rather support an unknown Republican - than a known Democrat at ALL LEVELS of Union County offices. Desperate circumstances call for desperate actions.

This is just a quick comment to Anonymous above:
- I am a registered Republican and I don't even support what you just wrote. Voting either party all the time is simply wrong. This is why we are a 2 party system ( in all reality ) in this country. You should vote for the person. That's it. I have voted for MANY Democrats throughout my voting history simply because I know allowing EITHER major party a free ride encourages the very abuses, disregard and apathy which is present and glorified here in Plainfield. Why was Jerry Green able to "choose" Sharon for HIS Mayor here in Plainfield???? Because he knows people walk into the voting booth and simply click party lines all the way down. This is as close to NO CHOICE in voting as you are going to get. I suggest you seriously look into each candidate who is running and simply vote for whoever has pissed off Jerry Green in the last year and vote for them. Democrat, Republican, Independant, Green Party or even Socialist Party backed. Simply to put the 2x4 across Jerry's nose and hopefully get his attention. I am seriously considering changing my party designation so that I could run for office here in NJ. I don't want to, but I know the reality. Because of a HUGE SLATE of half wits walking into the voting booth and muttering to themselves " Well, I got to vote Democrat cause Jerry Green says them other people's is bad ". This mentality has allowed NJ to become the filthy sewer of political self serving which has destroyed the working class people here in this state. Sorry for the preaching, but you can serve yourself and your city best by researching who is going to fight the system. An of course, no matter what, my calls still stands " ABS " -- ANYONE BUT SHARON ( thank you Dan )

In response to Rob. While I would usually agree with you to vote for the best candidate regardless of party - given the power of the current Democratic Machine - I think anything that supports a machine candidate ipso facto supports the machine, which is the root of our current malaise. The hard facts are that we are voting to validate a candidate AND their party. Having said that, I will, in this instance, support MAPP. I haven't seen if he's a "New Democrat". Of course the "New Democrats are also in opposition to the Green Machine - which satisfies my concerns, and allows me to vote for them.
