Dan's best day ever at dialysis, following Michael Cohen's testimony

Michael Cohen testifying Wednesday before the
House Oversight Committee.

Wednesday was my best day ever at dialysis, as I followed the Michael Cohen testimony before the House Oversight Committee.

Dialysis is not painful, but it is tedious. One must sit strapped into a big recliner for between three and four hours. With the prep and the protocol for taking one off the machine, you can add another half hour or so.

It truly is, like Betsy our manager says, "your new part-time job."

It's sort of like a first-grader being made to sit still in their seat all day long. :-)

So, when there is a diversion, it is always welcome.

The hype around Cohen made the hearing a media sensation. Trump's former personal lawyer, who is soon going to jail for lying to Congress, was going to set the record straight about why he lied -- and answer many other questions on the members' minds.

And, knowing his credibility was a matter of concern to all, he wisely showed up with "receipts" -- documents which were irrefutable backups to his statements.

In his opening statement he called Donald Trump "a racist, a con man, and a cheat" and proceeded to cite chapter and verse on each count.

The Republicans on the committee never once spoke to his accusations against Trump -- nor, tellingly, did they DEFEND Trump. Instead, they concentrated their fire on Cohen's being convicted of perjury.

I did not follow the hearing on TV. I followed it on Twitter, which was much more enlightening  -- and entertaining.

(You can read an excellent summary of the most important elements of Cohen's testimony here -- with links to the documents he submitted, text of his statement and complete video of the hearing.)

I follow several hundred of the country's best political journalists and just plain political junkies like me. Not only are they knowledgeable about any topic that comes up, they are wickedly -- and sometimes profanely -- funny, using language in their tweets that would never make it past an editor's blue pencil.

Several times during the afternoon nurses came to check on me when I burst into belly laughs at some Twitter comment.

At long last, it appears the boil that erupted on Uncle Sam's butt after January 2017, is being lanced.

Cohen was only the first in what is likely to turn into a blizzard of hearings covering a wide range of topics centering on the deeds and misdeeds of the President of the United State, his family and his minions.

It was a good afternoon -- for me, and for America.
