Sex secrets of Assemblyman Jerry Green

What does magic 8 ball say?

Plainfield Today
readers have been puzzled by Assemblyman Jerry Green's obsession with sex in this election cycle, and folks have some ideas what it's all about.

Some suggest he's old and sick and can't get it up anymore. That would be more than any of us need or care to know about Jerry Green's personal life.

Others have thought he might have been sexually abused as a child. That would be sad, but again not our business.

Yet others have suggested Jerry turned a few tricks for quick cash as a hustler when a young man. Who really cares?

I think it is possible Jerry has two motives in his sex-obsessed campaigning.

The first, of course, is the Mad Men/Don Draper mindset that sex ought to be a topic of which no one speaks. And, by extension, one which will influence voters -- in this case, Jerry hopes, in favor of his candidates as opposed to those of Mayor Mapp's Plainfield Democratic Organization on Column C.

On the other hand, I think there could be a darker motive.

Consider this: Why would Jerry Green spend upwards of $20,000 on two mailing pieces attacking me when I am not running for office and therefore am no direct threat to him? Is it a sort of backhanded compliment?

Not really.

For years, there have been whispers that at least one of Jerry Green's council members has sex secrets of their own they would rather not engage in public discussion about.

My theory is that Jerry is using this sexual campaign barrage to send a message to his own people: Jerry Green knows things about you and he would use them against you should you ever choose to disobey him.

It's really quite Machiavellian, and shows Jerry is a cunning linguist.

Machiavelli, however, held that to be effective, a prince should be both loved and feared.

Being feared is all Jerry Green is about, unfortunately.

One way to help fix that is to vote today for Plainfield's real interests, for candidates who are "unbought and unbossed" who are running for City Council and for the Democratic City Committee.

When you go to the polls today, be sure to VOTE COLUMN C.
